Qualifying
With the championship entering its penultimate weekend , a good result in qualifying was more important than ever. It was Specialized Motorsport's Simon Horrobin who ended up fastest in what proved to be a very dramatic session. A 1:19.193 second lap time would see Horrobin comfortably take pole by over four tenths of a second. Championship contenders Nathan Edwards and Sam Priest came next, separated by less than three hundredths of a second, with Lee Dendy-Sadler a delighted fourth. Silverstone winner Aaron Thompson would qualify fifth as the final car to get within a second of Horrobin. Alfonso Skriczka came next, just over two tenths back from Thompson, with Ryan Faulconbridge seventh. Tim Glover, Myles Baker and Jamie Going rounded out the top ten.
Race one
Simon Horrobin made the most of his pole position; he made a good start and lead by almost a second after the first lap. This was a lead that he'd never relinquish - Horrobin lead for all thirteen laps and took a commanding victory by four and a half seconds. Sam Priest made a good start as well and swiftly moved past Nathan Edwards for second place, and, despite the youngster's best efforts, Priest was able to gradually pull away and make it a one-two finish for Specialized Motorsport. Edwards was happy enough with third though as that was enough to keep him in championship contention. Aaron Thompson managed to squeeze his way past Alfonso Skriczka on lap one only to drop back behind him again on lap two. The pair spent several laps battling together, with Thompson only ever a few tenths off the back of his rival before, on lap eight, he made his move and was through into a fourth place he would hold until the end of the race. Skriczka eventually dropped back into the clutches of Ryan Faulconbridge and Lee Dendy-Sadler, who were having an epic battle behind. The trio then set about squabbling over fifth before a mistake on lap ten dropped Skriczka all the way back to eleventh. This left Faulconbridge to round out the top five with Lee Dendy Sadler finishing an impressive sixth. Myles Baker would have a fairly quiet run to seventh place with Jamie Going coming next. Alfonso Skriczka would finish tenth overall and ninth in class whilst problems for Tim Glover would relegate him to a tenth place finish in class and fourteenth overall.
Race two
The grid for race two was set by the drivers' second fastest time in qualifying. This would see Simon Horrobin on pole again with Sam Priest for company this time. Nathan Edwards would line up third alongside Lee Dendy-Sadler who was, again, delighted to be fourth. Aaron Thompson and Ryan Faulconbridge made up row three with Myles Baker and Tim Glover behind. Alfonso Skrizcka's second fastest time wasn't as competitive as he'd have liked; he started race two down in ninth. Jamie Going rounded out the top ten.
Race two got off to a spectacular start after contact on the first lap caused a huge shunt that took out Nathan Edwards and Aaron Thompson, as well as damaging several other cars. Jamie Going was excluded for his part in the incident. The red flag had to be brought out and by the time the incident had been cleared, there was only time for a four lap race. Simon Horrobin would take a lights to flag victory with teammate Sam Priest making it a Specialized Motorsport one-two, as had been the situation in the first race. All of the carnage allowed Myles Baker to take a podium finish in third, much to the delight of his JamSport team. Tim Glover came next, ahead of David Pugh with Faulconbridge, Jason Powell, Skriczka, and Lee Dendy-Sadler rounding out the finishers.
As the season reaches its climax at Brands Hatch on October 22nd and 23rd , the championship is still very much all to play for. It's going to be an absolutely fantastic finale, and you will not want to miss it.
