One of the most scenic tracks in the UK, Anglesey, was the host for rounds thirteen and fourteen of the 2016 BRSCC Ford Fiesta Championship. Here's what happened in classes A and B as the championship headed west.
Qualifying
Class A: Initially it looked like John Bateman would take his first pole position of the season, setting a very competitive 1:25.477 just two laps into the session. However, with only a few minutes remaining, the pole position was snatched out of his grasp when his class rival Peter Dendy-Sadler went quicker by just over four tenths of a second, managing to set a 1:25.018.
Class B: Class B followed a similar pattern. Kieran White went fastest early in the session, setting a 1:30.418, only to be eclipsed late into the session by main rival Luke Bannister, who was looking set to tie up the championship. Bannister's lap time of 1:28.115 was incredibly quick and thus saw him edge closer to winning the championship.
Race one
Class A: As the lights went out in race one, a great start by John Bateman saw him surge into the lead and put one of the class D cars between himself and Dendy-Sadler. This was quickly reversed; as lap two ended, Bateman and Dendy-Sadler were bumper to bumper, jostling for the lead. Over the next few laps a gap began to form between the two, after Bateman managed to pull nearly two seconds over Dendy-Sadler by lap six. However, the tide soon began to turn as some quick laps from the championship leader saw him close the gap to one second as the race entered it's closing stages. Nevertheless, Dendy-Sadler was unable to get any closer than this, and thus it was John Bateman taking victory in race one.
Class B: It was a much quieter affair in class B as Luke Bannister made a great start, able to romp away unchallenged by Kieran White. It was an absolutely dominant performance from Bannister - who took the win by over seven seconds and moved into touching distance of the title.
Race two
Class A: A huge crash between several class C cars on the first lap of race two meant the race would only be four laps long. Bateman would once again make a good start, allowing him to hold off Dendy-Sadler on the first lap. From there on in, he was able to pull away, take win number two of the weekend and close up in the championship standings.
Class B: Bannister and White made equal starts as the lights went out in race two. Despite White's best efforts to stay on the back of Bannister, he dropped back and ended the four lap race just over eight tenths of a second behind his rival. Win number two of the weekend coupled with fastest lap meant that Luke Bannister would become the 2016 BRSCC Quaife Ford Fiesta Championship Class B Champion.
