Class D is the second fastest class of the championship and has provided some of the best and closest racing this year. Here's what's happened so far.

Rounds one and two

There were lots of new drivers on the grid at Snetterton but the first pole position of the season would go the way of Alastair Kellett, a man who had no shortage of wins last season. Class D debutante John Cooper would line up second whilst Jessica King would start her second season in the senior championship third on the grid.

Race one would be a relatively easy one for Alastair Kellett, a good start saw him convert pole into the lead after lap one. From here, he would face very little challenge from behind. John Cooper was close enough to keep Kellett honest but he never really posed a serious threat to the leader. Kellett cruised to win number one of the season with John Cooper and Jessica King completing the podium after a pair of strong drives. Class debutantes Stuart Robbins and Jack Youhill followed in fourth and fifth.

An unchanged grid for race two would once again see Alastair Kellett convert pole to the lead in the opening stages of the race. However John Cooper's race turned sour after just one corner, he had contact with the class C car of Jamie Going and was out on the spot - the race had to be stopped to clear the incident. On the restart, Kellett would again take an early lead but Jessica King was determined to stop him taking a double win. A hard charge, including setting fastest lap, saw King come incredibly close to her first victory, in the end though she couldn't quite make it but second place was still a career best finish. Stuart Robbins had a quiet race to finish third. Behind the leading trio, there was a titanic battle for fourth that eventually went the way of Dana Freeman with Laura Chapple and Simon Furlonger right behind.

Rounds three and four

Silverstone, the "Home of British Motorsport" was the host for rounds three and four of the championship. In qualifying, Alastair Kellett would make it two poles in a row but John Cooper was less than a tenth of a second back. Jamie White and Jessica King came next, almost half a second behind the top two and Stuart Robbins was a further second back in fifth.

Race one would be a very similar story to Snetterton. Alastair Kellett got away well with John Cooper in hot pursuit and just like Snetterton, Cooper would spend the race trying to get past but to no avail. Kellett made it three wins from three races with Cooper just over a second behind. Jessica King would spend the opening laps battling with debutante Jamie White but King would eventually start to create a gap and take a relatively untroubled third with White an impressive fourth but almost three and a half seconds back. Stuart Robbins rounded out the top five.

An unchanged grid for race two saw Kellett take the lead as the lights went out but this wouldn't last for long. Contact with Jamie White on the opening lap saw Kellett speared into the wall and out of the race through Farm Curve. John Cooper also got involved and he would be out on the spot as well. All of this left Jessica King in a lead she wouldn't relinquish, a strong drive from King saw her take a career first victory, well over four seconds clear of eventual second place finisher Stuart Robbins. After being involved in the lap one incident, Jamie White was able to recover to third with Dana Freeman an excellent fourth ahead of Steve Ryan

Rounds five and six

The Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby provided a fresh challenge to the teams and drivers for rounds five and six of the championship. With the class C cars taking part in their own separate race, the class D drivers were left to fight it out for overall victory as well as class victory. Qualifying was a very close affair with the top three covered by less than four tenths of a second. It was Alastair Kellett who took the pole, making him so far unbeaten in qualifying but John Cooper was just five hundredths of a second behind. Jamie White was less than four tenths back in third. After scoring her first career victory, Jessica King remained on the pace in fourth with Dana Freeman behind her in fifth, the pair well over a second behind the lead trio.

Brushing aside their Silverstone dramas, Kellett, Cooper and White were quick to make their escape in race one. The trio lead at the end of lap one and they would stay there for the rest of the race. As Cooper and White battled over second, Kellett was able to pull away and make it four wins from five races. In only his second event in the championship, Jamie White was a fantastic second with Cooper eventually settling for third. Jessica King spent most the race on her own and eventually claimed fourth and valuable championship points. Behind her, a three-way battle for fifth went the way of Stuart Robbins from Jack Youhill and Dana Freeman.

Race two would very much follow the same pattern as race one. Kellett, Cooper and White would get away at the start and stay there. Once again Cooper and White battled for second although this time it would be Cooper who came out on top. Alastair Kellett would be unaffected by this as he cruised to his fifth victory this season with Cooper and White again completing the podium. Jessica King would again have a quiet race on her way to fourth with Robbins, Freeman and Ryan again battling over fifth. Robbins would once again take fifth but this time it would be Freeman sixth and Ryan in seventh.

At this stage of the season, Alastair Kellett lead the championship by 12 points from Jessica King with John Cooper just three points back. Despite missing the first two races, Jamie White was fourth with Stuart Robbins three points back in fifth. Make sure to read part two of tis article to see what happened in the next four races.
